Govt to Provide 40,000 Subsidized E-Bikes to Public
The federal government of Pakistan has announced an ambitious plan to distribute 40,000 electric bikes (e-bikes) to the public at subsidized rates. This initiative, revealed by the Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain during a press briefing in Islamabad, is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable transportation, reduce environmental pollution, and cut down on the country’s oil import expenses. The plan also includes numerous incentives for foreign investors to establish electric vehicle (EV) plants in Pakistan.

Subsidy Plan for Electric Bikes
To facilitate the adoption of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, the government has allocated a substantial subsidy of Rs 4 billion. This financial support aims to make electric motorcycles affordable and accessible to the general public. Under this initiative, banks will provide soft loans to individuals to ease their transition to EVs. Additionally, the government will reward academic excellence by distributing 120 electric motorcycles free of charge to top-performing students nationwide.
Charging Infrastructure Development
To ensure the successful implementation of this initiative, the government plans to establish 3,000 charging stations across the country. These facilities will cater to the growing needs of electric vehicle users and address concerns regarding the availability of charging infrastructure

Incentives for Foreign Investors
The federal government is actively encouraging foreign investors to participate in the development of Pakistan’s electric vehicle sector. Substantial incentives are being offered to attract investment in the establishment of EV production facilities. This approach is expected to create jobs, boost the economy, and support the country’s transition to cleaner and more sustainable transportation options.
Provincial Initiatives for E-Bikes
The Punjab government has also ramped up its efforts to promote e-bikes. Under the Chief Minister Youth Initiative, the allocation of e-bikes has increased from 20,000 to 27,200. This program aims to empower youth and provide environmentally friendly mobility solutions.
Special Provisions for Orphaned and Female Students
Under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, orphaned students are being prioritized and provided with free electric bikes. Furthermore, all female students who applied for electric bikes under the initiative will receive their two-wheelers, ensuring equitable access and promoting gender inclusivity.

Bank of Punjab’s Role
The Bank of Punjab has played a significant role in supporting the government’s e-bike initiative by approving loans for 20,000 students. To date, 7,500 e-bikes have already been distributed, with daily deliveries continuing to ensure timely access for beneficiaries.
This strategic initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering eco-friendly transportation, supporting academic achievements, and reducing reliance on imported fuels. With plans to establish comprehensive charging infrastructure and incentivize local EV production, the future of electric mobility in Pakistan appears promising.
