CM Maryam Nawaz Launches Free Medicine Supply to Punjab Districts

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken a significant step in healthcare by inaugurating the free medicine supply project across multiple districts in Punjab. During her visit to the Central Medicine Warehouse at Maraka — one of the largest storage facilities in the country — she emphasized the importance of timely distribution and high-quality medical supplies to improve healthcare accessibility for the public.

Free Medicine Distribution Project Kicks Off
The Chief Minister officially launched the initiative by overseeing the loading and dispatch of medicine-laden trucks destined for various districts. While inspecting the warehouse, she personally evaluated the quality, validity, and storage conditions of the medicines, ensuring compliance with international standards. Additionally, she inspected the furniture, medical equipment, and other hospital supplies stored in the facility.

Punjab Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan briefed the Chief Minister on the warehouse infrastructure, emphasizing the maintenance of a standard temperature for medicine storage and efficient transportation to district hospitals.
Modernized Warehouses to Revamp Punjab’s Healthcare
Nine central medicine warehouses have been established across Punjab as part of the free medicine project. These facilities hold medicines valued at over Rs10 billion. Furthermore, medical equipment worth more than Rs7 billion is also stored in these warehouses, aimed at modernizing and upgrading hospitals across the province.

CM Maryam Nawaz directed immediate operationalization of medicine warehouses in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan to ensure comprehensive coverage of healthcare services.
Focus on Transparency and Efficiency
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of transparency and merit in implementing the project. She emphasized creating an effective monitoring system to ensure smooth operations and accountability in supply chain management.
Establishment of PERA for Healthcare Regulation
In a parallel move, the Punjab government approved the establishment of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA). During its inaugural meeting, presided over by CM Maryam Nawaz, key decisions were made regarding the authority’s structure, appointments, and regulations.
PERA is envisioned as a regulatory body to oversee healthcare standards, enforce compliance, and ensure equitable healthcare service delivery across Punjab. The Chief Minister stressed the need for strict adherence to merit during appointments and encouraged the development of robust regulatory frameworks.
This initiative underlines the Punjab government’s commitment to transforming healthcare delivery by enhancing resource availability and governance mechanisms, ensuring better outcomes for the public.
